This website is created as part of the project 'Satellite Based Data Collection and Crop Yield Forecasting System for the Sahel Region’, a cooperation between the Agrhymet Regional Centre in Niamey, Niger, and EARS Earth Environment Monitoring in Delft, the Netherlands. In the framework of this project, the Energy & Water Balance Monitoring System (EWBMS) has been implemented at Agrhymet, in conjunction with the already existing Meteosat receiving station.
The EWBMS system generates temperature, radiation, evapotranspiration, cloudiness and precipitation data fields on the basis of hourly Meteosat data. These climatic data products are used to generate dedicated early warning information on drought and expected crop yield.
With the onset of the 2013 growing season workshops were held in Burkina Faso, Benin and Niger with participants from a variety of government departments involved in meteorology, agriculture, food security, drought management and related fields.Read More
